About the Gen 7 CAT
The CAT, gen 7 (latest version) is one of the most widely used tourniquet in the world among combat medics, corpsman, first responders, healthcare providers, and lay persons. It allows providers to quickly apply a tourniquet with a low failure rate. The Combat Application Tourniquet has proven to be 100% effective by the U.S. Army’s Institute of Surgical Research. This makes it the DoD and U.S. Army’s #1 tourniquet of choice. As always we follow recommendations from the Committee on Tactical Combat Casualty Care (CoTCCC). The CAT Gen 7 and 6 are both CoTCCC recommended due to their effectiveness at controlling extremity bleeding.
Tourniquet Construction
This CAT tourniquet uses a nylon band that is secured by Hook & Loop. There is a free moving internal band that connects to the windlass. It features a reinforced windlass, stabilization plate, windlass retaining clip, and time band. The Gen 7 tourniquets makes impressive improvements over prior generations, including a single routing buckle. This allows for one simple application method, regardless of the extremity that is injured.
